New Delhi: President of Alexander Stubb has urged the international community to adopt an approach similar to India’s diplomatic style, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and pragmatic decision-making. He made these remarks during a joint press briefing with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Appreciation for Modi’s Diplomatic Leadership
During the briefing, Stubb praised Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic leadership and highlighted India’s growing influence on the global stage. He said India is not only the world’s largest democracy but also one of the most influential countries shaping modern geopolitics.
Stubb noted that India has emerged as an important strategic partner for Europe. He also emphasized that India’s rapidly expanding economy makes it a key player in international cooperation and global development.

India’s Foreign Policy Called Practical and Realistic
The Finnish President commended India’s foreign policy, describing it as practical and grounded in realism. According to Stubb, India has consistently maintained strategic autonomy while supporting multilateral cooperation.
He said India demonstrates how nations can protect their sovereignty while actively participating in global partnerships. Stubb added that the international community could benefit from adopting some of India’s diplomatic principles and balanced approach.
India’s Role in a Changing Global Order
Stubb highlighted that the world is currently undergoing significant geopolitical changes. In this evolving global environment, he believes India will play a crucial role in shaping the future international order, especially in collaboration with countries in the Global South.
Talks on Global Security Issues
The leaders also discussed several international security concerns during their meeting. According to Stubb, the discussions included regional conflicts and global stability issues, particularly the situations in West Asia and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
He stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations.

Support for India’s Permanent Seat in the UN Security Council
Stubb reiterated Finland’s support for India’s bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He stated that India’s presence in the council would be important for ensuring balanced global representation.
Finnish Business Delegation Visits India
The Finnish President also mentioned that he arrived in India accompanied by representatives from around 20 Finnish companies. These firms are involved in sectors such as advanced technology, quantum research, satellite systems, network solutions, food technology, and green innovation.
He expressed confidence that stronger cooperation between India and Europe would open new opportunities for trade, technology, and sustainable development.
