From Rawatbhata to the Top Rank
Anuj Agnihotri belongs to Rawatbhata in Rajasthan, where he completed his early schooling. After finishing school, he moved to Jodhpur for higher education. He pursued medical studies at AIIMS Jodhpur, where he completed his MBBS degree.
After completing his medical education in 2023, Anuj decided to shift his career path toward public administration and began preparing seriously for the Civil Services Examination.
Currently Serving in Civil Services
Before achieving the top rank in UPSC 2025, Anuj had already entered government service. He is currently working in the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS), which is a Group B (Gazetted) civil service. His experience in administration also helped him gain a deeper understanding of governance and public policy while preparing for the exam.

In the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, Anuj Agnihotri secured the first rank in the country. The examination process consists of three stages — Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and the Interview (Personality Test). Anuj performed exceptionally well in all three stages to achieve the top position.
He appeared in the exam under the General Category, and his roll number was 1131589.
Success After Multiple Attempts
This was not Anuj’s first attempt at the civil services exam. In the 2023 attempt, his name appeared in the reserve list, and in 2024 he successfully cleared the mains examination. However, it was in 2025 that his persistence paid off and he secured the top rank.
Experts believe his success reflects years of focused preparation, strong conceptual understanding, and a consistent grasp of current affairs.
