Rajasthan : Education Minister Announces Suspension of Officer Over Rug Purchase Issue in Degana Schools

Rajasthan Assembly : During the ongoing budget session of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Friday (March 6), Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced the suspension of a government officer directly from the House after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in the purchase of rugs for government schools in the Degana constituency.

Issue Raised in the Assembly

The matter was raised by Degana MLA Ajay Singh Kilak, who questioned the minister about the distribution of rugs purchased for government schools using MLA development funds. According to the reply given to him earlier, a total of 399 rugs had been supplied to schools in the constituency.

However, Kilak claimed that the information provided was inaccurate and that officials had misled the minister. He cited the example of Bherunda, where 171 rugs were supposed to be purchased, but only 104 were reportedly procured. He further alleged that rugs worth more than ₹5 lakh had not been distributed and asked whether this indicated financial irregularities or a possible scam.

Minister Responds, Blames Previous Government

Responding to the question, Education Minister Madan Dilawar said the issue raised by the MLA was serious and indicated possible mismanagement. He alleged that the irregularities were linked to the tenure of the previous Congress government and said public funds had been misused during that period.

The minister assured the Assembly that a detailed investigation into the matter would be conducted.

Immediate Suspension Announced

Following the discussion, MLA Ajay Singh Kilak demanded that the officer who was in charge of the project at that time be suspended and investigated.

Taking note of the demand, Minister Dilawar announced from the Assembly floor that the then Block Education Officer (BEO) would be suspended with immediate effect. He said the decision was being taken because the matter appeared to involve possible corruption and required strict action before the investigation proceeds.

Opposition Raises Political Question

During the supplementary question round, Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena asked the minister whether action would also be taken against the former MLA associated with the matter, noting that he is now a member of the BJP.

In response, Dilawar reiterated that a proper inquiry would be conducted and strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible, regardless of their political affiliation.
