Jaipur, Rajasthan : Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister, highlighted key measures for farmer welfare in the State Assembly on Monday. Responding to MLA Samararam’s attention notice, he said that in maize-growing regions, the Agriculture Department and the Tribal Area Development Department distribute free maize seed mini-kits to farmers.
Over One Million Farmers Benefit from Free Maize Seeds
Dr. KirodiLal Meena stated that in the 2025-26 season, tribal farmers in Dungarpur, Udaipur, Banswara, Salumber, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Pratapgarh, Pali, Sirohi, and Baran districts received 8,26,219 maize seed mini-kits.
Non-tribal farmers in these districts received 2,26,643 mini-kits, making the total distribution in these areas 10,52,862 maize seed mini-kits.
Additionally, 96,882 free maize seed mini-kits were distributed to farmers in other maize-growing districts including Ajmer, Beawar, Bundi, Bhilwara, and Jhalawar.
For the 2026-27 season, Dr. Meena announced that 8.5 lakh tribal farmers in these districts will be provided hybrid maize seed mini-kits worth ₹85 crore, completely free of cost.

Support under National Food Security and Nutrition Mission
Under the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, districts selected for maize cultivation—Baran, Jhalawar, Banswara, Dungarpur, Salumber, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, and Rajsamand — will receive 500 quintals of certified maize seeds at subsidized rates.
Free seeds will also be provided for maize demonstration plots across 4,500 hectares. The action plan for these initiatives has been submitted to the Government of India.
Millet Seeds for 28 Districts
Dr. Meena added that in 2025-26, farmers in 28 millet-producing districts received 7,99,900 millet seed mini-kits. For 2026-27, to encourage millet cultivation, the plan includes distribution of 12,000 quintals of certified millet seeds at subsidized rates and free seeds for demonstration plots on 24,000 hectares. The proposal has been sent to the central government for approval.
