Mayawati BSP Leader : A political controversy has erupted after alleged lapses in protocol during President Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to West Bengal. The issue surfaced following her participation in an event in Siliguri, where concerns were raised about the arrangements and the absence of senior state representatives. The situation has drawn criticism from several political leaders across the country.

Mayawati Speaks in Support of the President

Reacting to the developments, Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati expressed her support for the President. In a post on the social media platform X, she said that according to the spirit and dignity of the Indian Constitution, every citizen and government authority must respect the office of the President and strictly follow official protocol.

Mayawati emphasized that constitutional posts should not become part of political disputes. She said turning such positions into political issues weakens democratic values.

Remarks on Respect for Constitutional Dignity

The BSP leader also pointed out that the current President is not only a woman but also comes from the tribal community. She described the developments during the President’s recent visit to West Bengal as “unfortunate” and said such situations should not occur.

In her message, Mayawati further noted that political disputes have increasingly affected other constitutional positions as well, including the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker. According to her, political parties should rise above party lines and maintain the dignity and respect associated with these institutions.

Expectations From the Upcoming Parliament Session

Mayawati also referred to the upcoming session of Parliament, expressing hope that the proceedings would run smoothly and focus on issues related to national and public interest.

What Happened in Siliguri

The controversy began during President Murmu’s visit to Siliguri in Siliguri, located in the state of West Bengal. Reports suggested that no senior minister or top representative from the state government was present to receive the President, which is generally expected under official protocol.

There were also complaints about limited space at the venue. President Murmu reportedly expressed disappointment, noting that many members of the local Santhal tribal community could not attend the program because of the restricted arrangements.

Political Reactions Intensify

The issue soon became political, with leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party accusing the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of disrespecting both the President and the tribal community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized the incident, calling it inappropriate and unprecedented. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government defended itself, stating that the district administration had already informed officials about the limitations of the venue before the event took place.

The episode has since sparked a broader debate on the importance of maintaining proper protocol and respecting constitutional institutions in Indian politics.
