A Story of Sacrifice and Support
Born on June 17, 2002, in Rampura village near Jaipur, Ashok comes from a humble background. His father, Nathulal, is a farmer, while his mother is a homemaker who once hoped her son would pursue a government job.
Interestingly, it was Ashok’s elder brother, Akshay, who played a crucial role in shaping his journey. Despite being a cricketer himself, Akshay stepped away from the sport to give Ashok a better chance to chase his dream. Their father initially wanted both sons to focus on studies, but eventually recognized Ashok’s dedication.
Training, Struggles, and a Big Setback
Seeing his growing passion, Ashok’s father enrolled him at the Aravali Cricket Academy in Jaipur, run by former Rajasthan and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) leg-spinner Vivek Yadav. To pursue training, Ashok had to travel long distances daily before eventually staying at the academy hostel.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashok faced a major setback when his coach Vivek Yadav passed away. It was a difficult phase, but he managed to overcome the loss and continued working hard to build his cricket career.
From Net Bowler to IPL Opportunity
Ashok initially worked as a net bowler for Rajasthan Royals, gaining valuable exposure. In IPL 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders picked him for ₹55 lakh, but he didn’t get a chance to play that season.
Later, Gujarat Titans showed faith in his potential and signed him for ₹90 lakh, eventually giving him his long-awaited debut.
Impressive Domestic Numbers
Ashok Sharma has shown promise across formats in domestic cricket. In first-class matches, he has taken 14 wickets in four games at an average of 29.71. In List-A cricket, he has claimed 13 wickets in seven matches.
His T20 record is particularly impressive, with 22 wickets in just 10 matches at an average of 15.63, highlighting his effectiveness in the shortest format.
