Meerut: Prime Minister will inaugurate Namo Bharat Corridor and Metro on February 22

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A new story of development will be written in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station at around 12:30 pm. He will then travel by metro to Meerut South Station.

At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects, estimated to cost approximately ₹12,930 crore. He will also address a public gathering during the event.

82-Kilometer-Long Delhi-Meerut Corridor

On this occasion, the Prime Minister will dedicate the 82-kilometer-long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation. The remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will also be inaugurated.

These include a 5-kilometer stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21-kilometer stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

The Namo Bharat Train is capable of running at a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour. This will provide faster and more convenient connectivity to cities like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut with Delhi.

Sarai Kale Khan becomes a multi-modal hub

The corridor’s starting station is Sarai Kale Khan, which has been developed as a major multi-modal transport hub. It will connect to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT, and the Ring Road, providing improved connectivity to passengers.In addition, three new Namo Bharat stations – Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram – are also being launched in this phase.

Meerut Metro: The country’s fastest metro service

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram. Significantly, this service will operate on Namo Bharat’s own infrastructure, marking the first such initiative in the country.

The Meerut Metro’s maximum operating speed will be approximately 120 kilometers per hour, enabling the entire distance to be covered in approximately 30 minutes. This system will play a crucial role in integrating and speeding up travel within and between cities.

Relief from traffic congestion, pollution reduction expected

The shared infrastructure of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro will not only speed up travel but also reduce road traffic congestion. This is expected to reduce vehicle traffic and carbon dioxide emissions.

These projects will promote modern, safe, and environmentally friendly public transport, making daily life easier for ordinary citizens.

This event in Meerut could prove to be a significant milestone in the field of regional connectivity and urban transportation.
