TATA IPL 2026 : The opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 witnessed an impressive debut performance from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Jacob Duffy, who made an immediate impact with the ball. The New Zealand fast bowler picked up three crucial wickets, playing a key role in putting early pressure on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Duffy Makes Instant Impact
Playing his first-ever IPL match, Duffy delivered a disciplined spell, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 22 runs in his four overs. He maintained an excellent economy rate of 5.50, showcasing control and consistency throughout his spell.
With senior pacer Josh Hazlewood unavailable due to injury, Duffy was given an opportunity in the playing XI — and he made full use of it.
Early Blows to SRH
Duffy struck early to remove key SRH batters, including Travis Head (11), Abhishek Sharma (7), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1). His fiery spell reduced SRH to 29 for 3 within just 4.2 overs, giving RCB a strong start in the contest.
However, the innings was later stabilized by Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, who built a steady partnership to recover the innings.
Dominance Over Travis Head Continues
Duffy also extended his impressive record against Travis Head in T20 cricket. This was the third time he dismissed Head in the format. Notably, Duffy achieved this in just four innings, highlighting his effectiveness against the Australian batter.
In comparison, Arshdeep Singh and Fawad Ahmed have also dismissed Head three times each, but over more innings.
Strong T20 Record
Duffy’s IPL debut performance adds to an already solid T20 career. In 169 matches, he has claimed 192 wickets at an average of 24.85. His record also includes seven four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket performances, underlining his ability to deliver match-winning spells.
