Gujarat/Gandhinagar | The State Election Commission has officially announced the schedule for Gujarat’s upcoming local body elections. Voting will take place on April 26, 2026, while the counting of votes is set for April 28.
Key Dates to Remember
The nomination process will begin on April 6 and continue until April 11. Candidates will have the option to withdraw their nominations until April 13.
One-Day Voting Across All Bodies
Polling for all local governing bodies—including municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats, and taluka panchayats—will be conducted on the same day using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The announcement was made by State Election Commission Chief Officer S. Muralikrishna.
Seats and Bodies Involved
A total of 9,992 seats across the state will go to polls this time.
- Municipal Corporations (MCs): Elections will be held in 15 corporations, excluding Junagadh and Gandhinagar, covering 1,044 seats.
- Municipalities: With the addition of seven new bodies, 84 municipalities will participate, accounting for 2,624 seats.
- District Panchayats: Voting will take place for 1,090 seats across 34 district panchayats. Out of these, 24 have undergone delimitation changes, while nine remain unchanged.
- Taluka Panchayats: Elections will be conducted for 5,234 seats across 260 taluka panchayats. Delimitation has been revised in 53 talukas, whereas 109 will see only rotational changes.
Statewide Electoral Exercise
The elections will see candidates contesting across all 9,992 seats, making it one of the largest grassroots electoral exercises in the state. The use of EVMs is expected to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process.
With the announcement now in place, political parties and candidates are expected to intensify their preparations in the coming days.
