During this long career, she has worked with almost every actor in the industry, including the three Khans— Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan —maintaining a great rapport with all of them.

Recently, in a candid conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Farah Khan revealed some untold stories from the industry, giving fans a glimpse of the struggles and darker realities of Bollywood that many were unaware of.

The Challenging Era of the 1980s

Farah described the 1980s as one of the weakest phases for Bollywood. She shared that during her college years, many of her friends preferred watching Hollywood films over Hindi cinema due to the poor quality of movies at that time.

According to Farah, this decade lacked creativity and strong filmmaking, which is why it is often remembered as a “low phase” in Bollywood history.

Underworld Influence in the 80s and 90s

The conversation then turned to the notorious influence of the underworld in Bollywood during the 80s and 90s. Farah confirmed that the era was indeed fraught with threats from criminal organizations. She recalled how filmmakers faced real dilemmas about releasing films due to fear of intimidation.

Farah mentioned that Karan Johar, during the making of iconic films like Duplicate and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, received threats from the underworld. She described the atmosphere as “terrifying,” with everyone unsure whether to release movies or keep them on hold due to these dangers.

While she was unsure about the Khans receiving such threats, she confirmed that the industry as a whole felt the shadow of these challenges.
