Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh – In a bombshell development that’s shaking the cricket world, former Indian Premier League (IPL) spinner Amit Mishra has been slapped with serious allegations of domestic violence and harassment by his wife, Garima Tiwari.
The 35-year-old model from Birhana Road in Kanpur filed a formal complaint in the local court, painting a grim picture of their marriage that spiraled from romance to nightmare.
Garima, who met Mishra through Instagram in 2019, described how their online chats blossomed into a deep connection over two-and-a-half to three years. What started as a fairy-tale bond culminated in a wedding at the upscale Kanpur Club on April 26, 2021. But behind the celebrations, Garima claims, lurked a darker reality.
A Marriage Marred by Violence and Control
In her court petition, Garima detailed a litany of abuses she endured at Mishra’s hands. She accused him of repeatedly assaulting her over dowry demands, subjecting her to relentless mental torture, and even denying her food on multiple occasions. “He turned our home into a prison,” she reportedly told the court, her voice steady despite the pain.

The allegations don’t stop there. Garima revealed that Mishra forced physical intimacy on her even during bouts of illness, stripping away any semblance of consent or care. As a working model, she said her hard-earned income vanished into his pockets, leaving her financially dependent and isolated.
The emotional toll peaked when, driven to despair, Garima attempted suicide by ingesting poison. She was rushed to the hospital and survived, but the incident underscored the severity of her plight.
Infidelity Claims Add Fuel to the Fire
Garima’s accusations extend to Mishra’s alleged extramarital entanglements. She claimed he maintained contact with several women, openly chatting and calling them right in front of her – a blatant disregard for their vows. Worse, she alleged he lured some of these women with false promises of marriage, only to exploit them sexually. “His actions destroyed not just me, but others too,” Garima stated in her filing.

These revelations have cast a long shadow over Mishra’s public image as a celebrated cricketer, known for his leg-spin wizardry in the IPL and international arenas.
Battle for Justice: From Police Stations to Courtroom
Frustrated by stonewalling from law enforcement, Garima took matters into her own hands. She said police initially refused to register her First Information Report (FIR), citing Mishra’s influence as a high-profile athlete from Kidwai Nagar’s RBI Colony. Even after escalating her complaint to the Police Commissioner, she hit a wall of inaction.
Undeterred, Garima approached the court to force the registration of the case. She’s now seeking Rs 1 crore in compensation for the trauma inflicted on her. This isn’t her first stand against him – it’s the third legal action she’s pursued, signaling a determined fight for accountability.
As the case unfolds, all eyes are on the Kanpur courts and the broader implications for Mishra’s career. For Garima, it’s a quest not just for redress, but for reclaiming her life from the shadows of abuse. The cricketing fraternity remains tight-lipped, but this story serves as a stark reminder that fame’s glamour often hides harsh truths.
