New Delhi – Two days after serious allegations were made against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Assam Police conducted a raid at the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera on Tuesday.

The action followed an FIR filed by Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. However, Khera was not present at the house during the raid. Officials reportedly seized several documents and electronic devices from the premises.

Sarma’s Strong Reaction

Reacting to Khera’s absence, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Congress leader, who had earlier challenged authorities to arrest him, had now fled to Hyderabad. He added that law enforcement agencies would track him down “from anywhere,” even “from the depths,” to uncover the source of the alleged fake documents.

Sarma also hinted that the documents in question might have been provided by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, though no evidence was publicly presented to support this claim.

What Sparked the Controversy

On April 5, Pawan Khera alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma possessed passports from multiple countries, including Egypt, Antigua and Barbuda, and the UAE.

Both Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife strongly denied these allegations, calling them baseless.

Political War of Words Intensifies

The controversy quickly escalated into a political clash. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the role of investigative agencies, stating that since they operate under the central government, it should ensure a fair probe into the matter. He also made sharp remarks against Sarma.

In response, Sarma hit back personally at Kharge, saying the veteran leader had “lost his sense” due to age.

Ongoing Tension

With accusations, counter-accusations, and police action unfolding rapidly, the issue has turned into a high-voltage political confrontation. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
