Suvendu Adhikari Takes Oath as West Bengal Chief Minister, BJP Forms First Government in State

West Bengal: In a historic political development, Suvendu Adhikari has officially taken oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the beginning of the first-ever government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with several senior BJP leaders. Suvendu Adhikari took the oath in the Bengali language.

Several Leaders Sworn in as Ministers

Alongside the new Chief Minister, Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet.

“A Historic Morning for West Bengal”

Before the ceremony, Suvendu Adhikari shared a message on X, calling it a historic day for the state.

He wrote that welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the “City of Joy” was a matter of pride and happiness. He also described the swearing-in ceremony as a moment where the dreams of the party’s founding leaders were turning into reality, as West Bengal witnessed its first BJP-led government since independence.

BJP Legislature Party Chose Adhikari as Leader

A day before the swearing-in, the BJP legislature party held a meeting in the presence of Amit Shah, where Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislative party.

Following the meeting, he met the Governor on Friday evening and formally staked claim to form the government.

BJP’s Massive Victory in Assembly Elections

In the assembly election results announced on May 4, BJP secured a commanding victory by winning 207 out of 293 seats.

Meanwhile, All India Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, managed to win only 80 seats.

Mamata Banerjee had served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the last 15 years, making this election one of the biggest political shifts in the state’s modern history.
