Mali, Bamako : In a shocking incident, Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara and his family were killed in a deadly car bomb attack. The explosion targeted his residence in Kati, a town near Bamako that is often seen as a stronghold of the ruling military junta.

According to family members and officials, the attack took place on Saturday and claimed the lives of Camara, his wife, and their two grandchildren.

Militants Behind the Attack

The assault has been linked to a joint operation by Tuareg rebel groups from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) and jihadist fighters associated with the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM).

These groups have intensified their operations across multiple regions, signaling a dangerous escalation in the country’s already fragile security situation.

Rising Violence Across Key Regions

Heavy clashes have been reported in several areas including Kati, Kidal, Gao, and Sévaré. Security sources suggest that the attackers are not aiming to hold smaller towns but are strategically focusing on symbolic locations—especially Kidal, which holds political and cultural importance in northern Mali.

A Decade of Conflict Deepens

Mali has been struggling with insurgency and instability for more than a decade. The situation has worsened significantly in recent days, with Saturday’s attacks being described as among the most severe since the military seized power in 2020.

Multiple armed factions continue to challenge the government, keeping large parts of the country in constant turmoil.

Regional Crisis Getting Worse

The instability is not limited to Mali alone. Neighboring countries like Niger and Burkina Faso are also battling extremist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and ISIS.In recent months, the frequency and intensity of attacks across the region have surged, with civilians increasingly becoming victims of violence.
