India and Vietnam Elevate Ties, Set $25 Billion Trade Target for 2030

New Delhi: Narendra Modi and To Lam have taken India-Vietnam relations to a new level by officially upgrading bilateral ties to an “Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” marking a significant step in cooperation between the two nations.

The announcement was made after high-level talks held in New Delhi on Wednesday, where both leaders focused on strengthening collaboration in trade, defense, strategic resources, and regional security.

$25 Billion Annual Trade Goal Set for 2030

As part of the new roadmap, Prime Minister Modi announced an ambitious target of achieving $25 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030. The decision reflects the growing economic engagement between India and Vietnam at a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific region.

Both sides emphasized expanding cooperation in key sectors including defense manufacturing, supply chains, and critical minerals.

Thirteen Agreements Signed Across Key Sectors

Following the talks, India and Vietnam signed 13 agreements aimed at deepening cooperation in multiple areas. These agreements cover digital payments, rare earth minerals, pharmaceuticals, education, banking, and cultural exchanges.

The deals are expected to create stronger institutional links and open new opportunities for business and strategic collaboration between the two countries.

Regional Security and Indo-Pacific Stability Discussed

During delegation-level discussions, both leaders also exchanged views on developments in the Indo-Pacific region. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to international law, regional peace, stability, and economic prosperity.

The discussions also touched upon growing security concerns in the South China Sea, where rising military activities have become a matter of global attention.

President To Lam on First State Visit to India

President To Lam, who was elected earlier this month, arrived in India on Tuesday for his first state visit since taking office. He is leading a high-level delegation on a three-day official visit.

Speaking to the media, Prime Minister Modi recalled that Vietnam became India’s first Comprehensive Strategic Partner in ASEAN nearly a decade ago. He said the strong foundation built over the years has now paved the way for an even deeper and more ambitious partnership in the future.
