He was 83. His son, photographer Nitin Rai, shared that he had been battling health issues for some time.

According to his family, Raghu Rai was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly two years ago. Although his condition initially improved, the disease later spread to his abdomen and eventually reached his brain. In recent months, he had also been dealing with age-related complications, which further weakened his health.

He is survived by his wife Gurmeet, son Nitin, and three daughters—Lagan, Avani, and Poorvai. His last rites will be performed on Sunday evening at Lodhi crematorium in Delhi.
