Tilak Varma , IPL 2026 : In the 30th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed a remarkable performance from Tilak Varma, who delivered an unbeaten 101 against Gujarat Titans (GT). This innings marked the first century of his IPL career, achieved in just 45 balls.

Building the Innings the Hard Way

Tilak walked in at a challenging moment, with MI struggling at 44 for 3. Initially, he took his time to settle, scoring 19 runs off his first 22 deliveries. However, once he found his rhythm, there was no stopping him. He shifted gears dramatically, especially targeting Ashok Sharma in one over where he smashed three sixes and two fours.

Explosive Finish and Milestone Moment

Tilak remained unbeaten on 101, reaching the milestone on the very last ball of the innings. His knock included 8 fours and 7 sixes, guiding Mumbai Indians to a strong total of 199/5 in 20 overs.

Joining Elite Company

With this innings, Tilak Varma equaled the record of Sanath Jayasuriya for the fastest century by a Mumbai Indians batter, both reaching the landmark in 45 balls. Jayasuriya had achieved the feat back in 2008 against Chennai Super Kings.

Tilak also became one of the few players to score an IPL century while batting at No. 5 or lower, joining names like Yusuf Pathan (2010), David Miller (2013), and Ben Stokes (2017).

A Journey of Growth

Since making his IPL debut in 2022 against Delhi Capitals, Tilak has steadily built his reputation. In 60 matches so far, he has scored over 1,600 runs at an average close to 36, including 9 half-centuries. Despite a slow start in IPL 2026, this innings stands out as his first major contribution of the season and a significant milestone in his career.
