Kerala/ Hyderabad : Actor Prakash Raj has landed in controversy after a complaint was filed against him by actress Karate Kalyani. The complaint has been registered at the Punjagutta Police Station in Hyderabad. Kalyani has accused the actor of making inappropriate remarks about the Ramayana and Indian mythological traditions.

Allegations of Hurting Religious Sentiments

According to reports cited by Deccan Chronicle, Kalyani alleged that Prakash Raj made statements that disrespected Lord Ram and the epic Ramayana. She claimed that such remarks have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. Calling the comments offensive, she has demanded immediate legal action against the actor.

Remarks Linked to Kerala Literature Festival

The complaint is reportedly connected to statements made by Prakash Raj during the Kerala Literature Festival held in Kozhikode in January 2026. During the event, he is said to have referred to a conversation between Ram and Lakshman. He also spoke about the issue of imposing Hindi in southern states, which further fueled the controversy.

Concerns Over Public Harmony

Kalyani stated that the actor’s comments crossed the limits of decency, especially considering the cultural and religious importance of the Ramayana in India. She emphasized that such statements could disturb social harmony and potentially create unrest among communities.

Demand for Legal Action and Content Review

In her complaint, Kalyani urged the police to register an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She also requested authorities to trace the source of video clips circulating online and consider blocking them if found objectionable.

Evidence Submitted for Investigation

The actress mentioned that she has preserved video clips, screenshots, and timestamps as evidence. She has expressed her willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide a detailed statement if required.

This development has once again sparked debate around freedom of expression and sensitivity towards religious beliefs in public discourse.
