Italy PM Giorgia Meloni Calls Viral Fake Images a Dangerous Deepfake Attack

Rome, Italy : Giorgia Meloni has responded after several manipulated and explicit images falsely linked to her began circulating widely across social media platforms and online forums, triggering widespread discussion in Italy and abroad.

The controversy gained momentum after the Italian Prime Minister personally addressed the issue on social media, making it clear that the images are fake and created using artificial intelligence.

Meloni Says Images Were Created Using AI

In a post shared on social platform X, Meloni said multiple fabricated images featuring her have been spreading online in recent days. She stated that the visuals were generated through AI technology and are being promoted by extremist critics as if they were authentic.

While addressing the controversy, Meloni used a touch of sarcasm, saying the people behind the images had, at least in that respect, made her look “better.”

Deepfakes Are a Dangerous Weapon

Meloni warned that the issue goes far beyond personal attacks. She described deepfake technology as a dangerous tool capable of misleading people, manipulating public opinion, and targeting individuals with false content.

According to her, the misuse of artificial intelligence for spreading misinformation has become a serious concern in today’s digital world.

‘Verify Before You Believe’

In her message, Meloni said she is capable of defending herself, but many others may not be in the same position.

She urged people to adopt a simple rule in the digital age—verify information before believing it, and think carefully before sharing it. Meloni added that what is happening to her today could happen to anyone tomorrow.
