Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, on Wednesday raised serious concerns over the election environment in West Bengal. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, he claimed that an unusual administrative structure is being created to influence the ongoing electoral process.

Claims of Parallel System

Yadav alleged that, for the first time, a “parallel administrative framework” is operating alongside the existing state machinery. According to him, central forces are being used to establish an alternative chain of command that runs from top to bottom, potentially impacting the fairness of elections.

Support for Mamata Banerjee

Backing Mamata Banerjee, Yadav said that the strong public support in the state indicates she is heading toward a decisive and historic victory. He emphasized that voters in Bengal have largely backed her leadership.

Allegations of Interference in Administration

The SP chief further claimed there are signs of interference even at the level of the Director General of Police (DGP). He alleged that recommendations are being made regarding who should hold the top police position, and additional IPS officers are being deployed above district police chiefs.

Accusations Against Officials

Yadav also suggested that some officials posted in West Bengal might be working under pressure or incentives. He alleged that certain officers have either received benefits in the past or have been promised future gains, while others may be under investigation or facing pressure.

Reference to Rampur By-election

Drawing a comparison, he said a similar approach had been used earlier during the by-election in Rampur. According to him, the same “model” is now being replicated in West Bengal to influence voting outcomes.

Appeal to Voters

Yadav urged voters to remain vigilant and vote against those who misuse administrative machinery. He also warned that such strategies could be repeated in other states, including Uttar Pradesh, and called on citizens to stay alert to protect the integrity of elections.
