Smriti Mandhana : India’s T20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in the record books by becoming the highest run-scorer for India in T20 Internationals. The left-handed batter achieved this landmark during the first T20I against South Africa women’s national cricket team on Friday, April 17, at Kingsmead Cricket Ground.

Record Broken Despite a Modest Knock

Interestingly, Mandhana didn’t need a big innings to reach the milestone. She scored just 13 runs in the match, but that was enough to take her overall tally to 4,244 T20I runs. In doing so, she went past former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who previously held the record with 4,231 runs.

Numbers That Tell the Story

Mandhana reached this feat in 161 T20I innings, maintaining an average of 30.53 and a strike rate of 124.45. Her record includes one century and 33 half-centuries.

In comparison, Rohit Sharma had scored his 4,231 runs in 160 innings, with an impressive record of five centuries and 32 fifties.

A Consistent Performer Across Formats

Mandhana’s dominance isn’t limited to T20Is. She has already established herself as one of the leading figures in women’s cricket:

  • ODIs: 5,411 runs with 14 centuries
  • Tests: 635 runs at an average above 48

Her performances have played a key role in shaping India’s success in international cricket.

A Modern Great in the Making

With records tumbling and consistency across formats, Smriti Mandhana continues to build a legacy that places her among the finest players in women’s cricket. Her latest achievement further strengthens her reputation as a cornerstone of India’s batting lineup.
