South Africa vs New Zealand : South Africa secured a convincing 33-run victory over New Zealand in the fifth and final T20 match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. With this win, the Proteas wrapped up the five-match series 3-2 after both teams were tied 2-2 going into the decider.

Long Wait Continues for New Zealand

New Zealand’s struggle against South Africa in T20 series continued. The last time they won a bilateral T20 series against the Proteas was back in 2005. Since then, the two sides have faced off in six series — South Africa have won five, while one ended in a draw.

South Africa Post Strong Total

After being asked to bat first, South Africa put up a competitive total of 187/4 in their 20 overs. The innings did not begin strongly, with Tony de Zorzi dismissed for 12 in the fourth over.

A steady partnership followed between Wiaan Mulder (31) and Rubin Hermann (39), who added 55 runs for the second wicket in 39 balls.

The highlight of the innings came from Connor Esterhuizen, who played a brilliant knock of 75 runs off just 33 deliveries, scoring at an impressive strike rate of over 227. His explosive innings earned him the Player of the Match award.

For New Zealand, Ben Sears picked up two wickets, while Josh Clarkson and Zakary Foulkes claimed one each.

New Zealand Fall Short in Chase

Chasing a target of 188, New Zealand could not build enough momentum and finished at 154/8 in 20 overs. Bevon Jacobs was the top scorer with 36 runs. Captain Jimmy Neesham contributed 24, while Dane Cleaver added 22. Tim Robinson was run out after scoring 25.

Bowlers Shine for Proteas

South Africa’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance. Gerald Coetzee led the effort with figures of 2/21 in his four overs. Wiaan Mulder and Ottneil Baartman also picked up two wickets each, while captain Keshav Maharaj chipped in with one.
