Emmanuel Macron Warns Iran to Stop Attacks in Middle East

Emmanuel Macron : French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and called for an immediate halt to attacks linked to Iran across the Middle East. The discussion comes amid rising tensions as Iran has reportedly been involved in attacks targeting countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Macron warned that the ongoing escalation could push the entire region into deeper instability and lead to long-term consequences.

Macron Calls Out Iran and Its Proxy Groups

Following the conversation, Macron shared details on the social media platform X. He stated that he urged the Iranian president to stop what he described as “unacceptable attacks” carried out either directly by Iran or through proxy groups.Macron specifically mentioned organizations such as Hezbollah and Houthis, along with other militias operating in countries including Lebanon and Iraq.

The French president also emphasized that France’s actions in the region are strictly defensive and aimed at protecting its national interests, regional partners, and the principle of freedom of navigation. He added that any attempt to target France would be unacceptable.

Warning Over Strait of Hormuz Security

Macron also raised concerns about security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and gas. He stressed that freedom of navigation through the strait must be restored as quickly as possible.

Iran has been accused of attacking or threatening ships passing through the strategic waterway, raising fears of disruptions to global energy supplies.

Call for a New Political and Security Framework

According to Macron, the ongoing escalation is pushing the region toward chaos, with serious consequences for both the present and the future. He noted that people across the region, including those in Iran, are paying the price for rising tensions.

The French leader also reiterated that lasting peace would require a new political and security framework. Such a framework, he said, must ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons and must also address concerns surrounding Iran’s ballistic missile program and regional activities.

France Seeks Release of Detained Citizens

During the call, Macron also asked the Iranian president to allow two French citizens, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, to return safely to France. He said their detention has gone on far too long and that they should be reunited with their families as soon as possible.
