Uttarakhand Budget Session 2026-27 : The budget session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday, March 9, at the Bhradarisain Assembly building in Gairsain, the state’s summer capital. The session officially began with the Governor’s address, following which the Dhami government is set to present the budget for the financial year 2026–27.
Focus on Development Ahead of 2027 Elections
The government is expected to outline key development initiatives and policies with an eye on the upcoming 2027 assembly elections. Reports suggest that the state budget for 2026–27 could be around ₹1.11 lakh crore, approximately 10% higher than last year.
Special emphasis is likely on schemes benefiting the poor, farmers, youth, and women. In addition, announcements may focus on infrastructure development, employment generation, and strengthening the rural economy.
Opposition Plans Protests
While the government prepares its legislative agenda, the opposition has reportedly planned street protests to raise concerns and challenge government policies during the session.
Heavy Security Deployed in Gairsain
Ahead of the session, authorities have implemented strict security measures. Police forces have been extensively deployed in and around the assembly complex. Additional Police Director General (Law & Order) Dr. V. Murugesan personally reviewed the arrangements and provided instructions to officers and staff on duty.
Chamba District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar and Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Panwar were also present during the review.
Security arrangements include four Additional Police Superintendents, 10 Deputy Superintendents, 44 Station Heads, 90 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 32 Lady Sub-Inspectors, 434 Constables, and 60 Lady Constables.
