Trump Cancels Pakistan Visit, Sets Tough Conditions for Iran Talks

US News : Amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, former US President Donald Trump has adopted a hardline stance. He canceled a planned visit to Pakistan and mocked the idea of making a long trip for what he described as merely reviewing a “piece of paper.”

‘18-Hour Flight for Nothing’: Trump’s Remark

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said it would be “ridiculous” for the US to undertake an 18-hour journey just to examine a document. He emphasized that diplomatic methods have evolved, suggesting that direct visits are no longer necessary in such situations.

Trump added that if it is already clear Iran would present a proposal unacceptable to the US, then traveling would only waste time. Instead, he highlighted that discussions are now taking place over phone calls, which he claimed are working effectively.

Delegation Visit Called Off at Last Moment

Earlier, Trump’s envoys, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, were scheduled to visit Islamabad. However, the trip was abruptly canceled on Trump’s instructions.

Mixed Signals on Peace Talks Progress

While indicating that negotiations between the US and Iran are moving forward, Trump expressed uncertainty over their success. He made it clear that any agreement would hinge on strict conditions.

No Deal Without Nuclear Rollback

Trump firmly stated that no deal would be possible unless Iran completely abandons its nuclear weapons ambitions. He warned that the US would not compromise on this demand.

Rejection of Hormuz Proposal and Warning of Tighter Sanctions

Trump also dismissed proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift blockades. He insisted that restrictions would only intensify unless Iran fully shuts down its nuclear program.

In an interview with Axios, Trump claimed that the current blockade is more effective than military strikes, adding that Iran is already under severe pressure and conditions could worsen further.
