Documentary about Melania Trump has been stopped from being shown in South African cinemas.

Melania Film 2026 : The film “Melania,” about the First Lady of South Africa, was scheduled for release in numerous cinemas worldwide on Friday, but it has been pulled from South African theaters and will no longer be released there. The decision is reportedly due to recent events in South Africa.

The distributors stated that the decision not to release the film was their own and that they were not pressured by anyone. The news was first reported by the South African news channel News24.

Despite millions of dollars spent on marketing, advance ticket sales were very low, posing a significant risk for the filmmakers. The film about Melania Trump has been surrounded by controversy, much like her husband, President Trump. Amazon invested $40 million to acquire the rights to the film.

The film “Melania” depicts the weeks leading up to Trump’s second inauguration. It has been highly controversial and has faced significant criticism.

The president has been a harsh critic of South Africa since the beginning of his second term and has spread false claims that the white minority community in South Africa is facing genocide. The decision not to show the Melania film in South African cinemas was made by the theaters themselves.

South Africans are angered by the tariffs imposed by President Trump and by the spread of misinformation about South Africa. However, it is unclear if this is the reason for the film’s cancellation. The decision was made abruptly.

Mark Sardi, an executive at Ster-Kinekor, a South African cinema chain, shared a message from Filmfinity this week stating that the film “Melania” had complied with all local regulations and would be released. However, in an interview on Wednesday, Sardi said he did not know why the distributor had pulled the film.

Sardi said, “This decision was likely made from a commercial perspective, taking into account several current issues.” A spokesperson for South Africa’s content regulator, the Film and Publication Board, said on Wednesday that the board was unaware that the film had been removed.
