West Bengal : Following the meeting of the newly elected BJP legislative party in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was appointed as the party’s central observer, officially announced the name of Suvendu Adhikari for the post of Chief Minister. The decision comes after BJP’s major victory in the state assembly elections.
Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur assembly constituency, is now set to lead West Bengal as the state’s new Chief Minister. Reports confirm that he was elected as the BJP legislature party leader ahead of the government formation.

The announcement marks a major political transition in West Bengal, where the BJP has formed its government after securing a decisive mandate in the 2026 assembly elections. Adhikari’s victory over Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur has been seen as one of the biggest moments of this election.

Meanwhile, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and leader of the Awami League congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party on its overwhelming victory in West Bengal.
In her message, she extended heartfelt congratulations to all the winners of the West Bengal Assembly elections and wished continued success, prosperity, and development for both West Bengal and India.
