A significant health incident has been reported aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship after a norovirus outbreak affected passengers and crew members during an ongoing Caribbean journey. The ship was carrying a total of 3,116 passengers, and health officials confirmed that 102 passengers along with 13 crew members became ill during the trip. In total, 115 people were impacted by the outbreak.

Cruise Journey Began in Florida

The voyage started on April 28 from Fort Lauderdale and is scheduled to conclude on May 11 at Port Canaveral. During the trip, the cruise made stops at several popular Caribbean destinations, including Aruba, Bonaire, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.

CDC Identifies Main Symptoms

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the primary symptoms reported among affected individuals included vomiting and diarrhea. Cruise operator Princess Cruises described the incident as a gastrointestinal illness linked to norovirus.

Understanding Norovirus Symptoms

Norovirus usually causes sudden stomach-related symptoms such as vomiting and watery diarrhea. In many cases, people may also experience stomach cramps, nausea, mild fever, headaches, and physical weakness. Symptoms typically last between one to three days, and most people recover without serious complications.

Higher Risk for Vulnerable Groups

Health experts warn that young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems may face a higher risk of dehydration during infection. Extra care and proper hydration are especially important for these groups.
