Sports Desk, New Delhi | India’s success in javelin throw over the past few years has been remarkable, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Paralympic gold medalist Sumit Antil playing key roles in bringing global recognition to the sport. However, both athletes have now come forward with serious allegations against a fellow Indian coach, shaking the athletics community.

Allegations of Mental Harassment and Abuse

According to a report by The Bridge, multiple Indian javelin throwers have filed a written complaint with the Sports Authority of India. The complaint accuses coach Naval Singh of repeated mental harassment and the use of abusive language.

The athletes claim that Singh allegedly sent voice recordings while under the influence of alcohol, in which he used offensive language not only against them but also targeted their family members.

Sumit Antil Leads the Complaint

Sumit Antil has emerged as the primary complainant in this case. He had previously raised the issue with both the Sports Authority of India and the Paralympic Committee of India. When no effective action followed, Antil submitted a formal written complaint on April 10.

In his statement, Antil emphasized that he prefers to stay away from controversies, but the repeated incidents left him with no choice but to escalate the matter.

Neeraj Chopra Backs Fellow Athletes

Neeraj Chopra has also extended his support to Antil and other athletes involved in the complaint. In his statement, Chopra condemned the alleged behavior of the coach, calling it unacceptable and unprofessional.

He further highlighted that the use of abusive language against athletes and their families crosses the line of basic decency and goes against the values expected in professional sports.

Coach Currently Training Young Talent

The accused coach, Naval Singh, is currently associated with emerging javelin thrower Sachin Yadav. The situation has raised concerns about the environment in which young athletes are being trained.

Awaiting Action from Authorities

With top athletes like Neeraj Chopra and Sumit Antil backing the complaint, pressure is mounting on authorities to take swift and appropriate action. The case has not only sparked debate within Indian athletics but also raised broader questions about athlete welfare and accountability in coaching systems.
