Singer Masoom Sharma – A cultural event at a college turned controversial after Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma was accused of using inappropriate and abusive language during his stage performance. Following the incident, an FIR has been lodged at Dalnawala Police Station.

The complaint was filed by student representative Pranchal Nauni, who alleged that during the April 11 event, the singer used offensive words, including explicit abuses, in front of a large gathering of students and attendees.

Incident Sparks Debate Over Decorum in Educational Spaces

According to police officials, the incident took place within a public educational campus, raising concerns about maintaining dignity and discipline during such events. Authorities stated that such behavior not only impacts the institution’s reputation but also reflects poorly on the city as a whole.

Viral Video Triggers Public Outrage

The situation escalated after a video of the performance surfaced online and quickly spread across social media platforms. The clip sparked strong reactions, especially in Dehradun and other parts of the country.

Students and parents have openly criticized the incident, calling the use of such language in an academic environment unacceptable. Several social organizations have also demanded strict action against the singer.

Interestingly, people from Haryana have also reacted to the controversy, expressing disappointment and criticizing the singer’s conduct.

Police Action and Legal Charges

SP City Pramod Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered against the singer under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:

  • Section 296 (Obscene acts and songs)
  • Section 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)

Police officials have stated that the investigation is currently underway, and further action will be taken based on evidence.

Students Warn of Protest

Meanwhile, the student representative has warned that if timely action is not taken, students, parents, and social groups may stage peaceful protests and even surround the police station.

As the issue continues to gain traction, it has reignited a broader discussion about responsibility, behavior, and boundaries in cultural events organised within educational institutions.
