Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sagar’ Rescues Olive Ridley Turtle from Fishing Net

Tamil Nadu, India : During a routine patrol along the coast of Tamil Nadu, personnel aboard the Indian Coast Guard vessel ‘Sagar’ spotted an endangered sea turtle struggling in a fishing net. The turtle, identified as an Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, had become trapped and was unable to free itself.

Noticing the situation, the crew immediately moved closer and began a careful rescue operation. Working swiftly, they managed to untangle the turtle from the net without causing it harm.

Returned Safely to the Sea

After ensuring the turtle was unharmed, the Coast Guard personnel released it back into the open sea. The timely intervention helped save the life of the endangered marine species, which often faces threats from fishing gear, pollution, and habitat loss.

The incident highlights the role of the Indian Coast Guard not only in maritime security but also in protecting marine wildlife along India’s coastline. Officials say such efforts are part of ongoing awareness and conservation initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable ocean species.
