SAFF U20 Championship 2026 : The Indian U-20 football team kicked off their SAFF U20 Championship 2026 campaign in dominant fashion with a convincing 3-0 victory over Pakistan in a Group B clash held at the National Stadium in Malé on Thursday.

With this emphatic win, India have secured their place in the semifinals, while Pakistan, after suffering back-to-back defeats, have been eliminated from the tournament.

Suraj Singh Stands Tall Under Pressure

Despite conceding early control in phases, India’s defense remained solid, largely thanks to goalkeeper Suraj Singh Aheibam, who delivered a standout performance between the posts.

Pakistan tried hard to bounce back and came close to equalizing on a couple of occasions. However, Suraj produced crucial saves to deny dangerous attempts from Najibullah and Khubaib Khan, ensuring India maintained their advantage.

Omang Dodum Shines with a Brace

India shifted gears in the second half, focusing on quick counter-attacks. The strategy paid off in the 64th minute when Samson initiated a move from the back, passing to Rishi Singh, who set up Omang Dodum.

Dodum outpaced the Pakistani goalkeeper Zulqarnain and calmly headed the ball into the net, doubling India’s lead to 2-0.He wasn’t done yet. In the 88th minute, India earned a penalty after Prashant Jajo was fouled inside the box. Dodum stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick, sealing his brace and India’s 3-0 win.

Bangladesh Clash to Decide Group Top Spot

The victory has simplified the Group B standings. While Pakistan are out of contention, the top spot will be decided in the upcoming match between India and Bangladesh on Saturday.

India need just a draw to finish as group leaders, which would set up a semifinal clash against the runner-up from Group A.
